Trolloc poison is a substance in the television series The Wheel of Time. Trollocs coat this poison on their weapons, and it causes wounds to worsen and potentially become fatal.

Overview[]

Wounds afflicted with trolloc poison become blackened and pus-filled. The injured individual becomes weakened, eventually falling unconscious, and even becoming confused or delirious. While unconscious, Moiraine mutters Siuan's name althoug she's not there.[1] Tam talks to Rand as though he's talking to his deceased wife Kari.[2]

Trolloc poison is fatal if not treated. Only an Aes Sedai can heal an afflicted wound.[3]

The effects of trolloc poison seem to be generally known by people familiar with trollocs, such as Aes Sedai and Children of the Light. Moiraine identfies it immediately upon seeing Tam's wound.[4] Geofram Bornhald recognizes that Moiraine's wound is caused by a trolloc and that she'll need an Aes Sedai to heal it.[5]

History[]

Season 1[]

During the attack on the Two Rivers on Bel Tine, the trollocs use weapons coated in trolloc poison. A trolloc attacks the al'Thor farm and injures Tam al'Thor with its weapon. Rand al'Thor gets his father back to the village, but Tam's fallen unconscious from the effects of the injury and the poison. Moiraine identifies that the wound is afflicted with trolloc poison, and she heals it with the One Power.[4]

When the Children of the Light stop Moiriane's party, Eamon Valda searches her and presses against a wound she took during the attack, and she flinches in a show of pain. She shows him and Geofram Bornhald the wound, which is darkening with the affliction of trolloc poison. Bornhald advises her to find an Aes Sedai since only an Aes Sedai can heal such a wound. As they travel on, Moiraine becomes increasingly weaker, eventually falling unconscious and having trouble waking.[5]

When Nynaeve al'Meara catches up to Moiraine and Lan, Lan convinces her to help Moiraine. Unconscious, Moiraine whispers Siuan's name. Nynaeve drains the pus from Moiraine's wound and uses herbs to treat it. This gives Moiraine enough energy to wake again for a while, and Lan is able to get Moiraine to a group of Aes Sedai.[1] At the Aes Sedai camp, Kerene Nagashi heals Moiraine's wound.[6]

Rand later recalls getting his father back to the village to help with his wound. Under the effects of the trolloc poison, Tam began speaking to his deceased wife Kari, telling her about the woman he came across and the baby she had. Tam seemed to not be aware of Rand or his surroundings at the time.[2]

Changes from the book series[]

In the book series Trolloc weapons do not have a specific poison but in some cases the metal itself can take a taint, a stain of evil from the place, the forge they have been made. See more about Trolloc#Trolloc_weapons Booklink (book spoilers!) from the book series.
