Transcript for The Dark Along the Ways, season 1 episode 7 of The Wheel of Time.

Scene numbers match the official scenes on Prime video, while titles are unofficial descriptions. Scene 1 is the Prime Video logo.

Scene 2: Previously on[]

Siuan: You've been gone such a long time.
Moiraine: I've found five potential Dragons in the same village.
Egwene: Nynaeve.
Nynaeve: Egwene.
Siuan: If it's one Dragon or five, man or woman, the heart of every prophecy is the same: the Dragon will either defeat the Dark One or join him.
Moiraine: You have to be careful. You have to watch him.
Mat: You're a right bastard, Padan Fain.
Padan Fain: Pleasure, as always.
Siuan: I have made my judgment. You are exiled from this tower.
Siuan: The Dark One. At the Eye of the World. We can destroy him.
Moiraine: We don't know which one of them is the Dragon.
Siuan: Take them all.
Moiraine: We'd be sentencing the other four to certain death.
Rand: We've all heard of the Ways in stories, but none of us know what they are.
Moiraine: The fastest road to the Eye of the World.
Rand: Mat!
Group: Mat! Mat!

Scene 3: Blood Snow[]

Note: This scene has no dialogue.

A woman, Tigraine, runs through the snow, panting. She's carrying a spear in her hand, with more spears on her back, and blood is spattered on her clothes. Bodies of soldiers are fallen around her. She stops and looks back, revealing a rounded belly -- she's pregnant.

A rocket fires through the air, striking the slopes around her. She continues running. The camera pans up, revealing the slope of a steep mountain: Dragonmount.

Tigraine takes refuge behind large rocks. She pulls down her mask and slides down, breathing heavily.

A sound has her ducking to the side as a sword comes down just where her head was. A soldier stands above her and swings at her again. She picks up her spear and attacks, but she pauses to grab her stomach and breath heavily through another contraction. As the soldier rushes her, she runs past him, grabbing his cloak and pulling him down, and stabbing him in the face, killing him. She falls to her hands during another contraction as more soldiers run up behind her.

One rushes her and she stabs him through the chest with her spear. Another throws a dagger at her, and she turns to use the soldier on her spear as a shield -- the dagger strikes him instead. She pulls out her spear and throws it at the other soldier, knocking him down but not killing him. She turns as two more soldiers head her way, and she runs back to the rock to retrieve her other two spears.

The two new soldiers throw daggers at her and she knocks them aside with her spears. She fights them with her spears as they use swords. The third soldier, whom she had knocked down with a spear, has gotten back up and runs up behind her. She fights all three, knocking down two and stabbing the third through the chest, killing him. She falls with another contraction as the other two soldiers get back up.

They fight, and she slashes one on the leg and then runs her spear through his throat, killing him. As she's fighting the last soldier, another contraction hits her, and the soldier is able to grab her from behind. She bites his hand, and he stabs her in the side. She head-butts him, pulls out the blade, and stabs him with it, killing him. She looks at the bloody wound at her side.

She pulls the cloak off the soldier and crawls to some rocks, where she prepares to give birth. She closes her eyes and pushes, and as she does so, a sword is pointed at her throat. She opens her eyes and looks up at a soldier standing before her. He's holding a heron-mark sword.

Scene 4: Opening theme.

Rand: Mat! Come on!
Egwene: Mat!
Rand: Hurry up! Mat!
Egwene: Mat, no!
Rand: Mat!
Nynaeve: Stop! You need to open it again.

Lan and Moiraine light a torch.

Nynaeve: We are not leaving without him.
Moiraine: He made his choice.
Rand: Did he? Or did you make it for him?
Moiraine: You know the darkness in him. You know it better than anyone. Do you really think he's ready for what lies ahead?
Rand: Of course he is.
Moiraine: We've already wasted too much time. Stay close.

Moiraine hands her torch to Nynaeve and walks ahead.

Nynaeve: We need to open the Waygate.
Egwene: How? We can barely channel...
Loial: Unfortunately, reopening the Waygate would be impossible. There cannot be any use of the One Power within the Ways. To do so would be to throw yourself at Machin Shin and ask it to feast on your soul.
Nynaeve: What is Machin Shin?
Loial: Moiraine Sedai is moving quite quickly. And we Ogier are not known for our... speed. If you'll excuse me.
Rand: Listen, this is Mat we're talking about. We can't just leave him.
Egwene: We didn't leave him. He left us.
Rand: You don't actually believe that, do you?
Perrin: Then what are we going to do? We can't open the Waygate. We can't find our way out of here without them. Should we just sit down and die?
Nynaeve: When this is all over, we'll find him. I promise you that.

They all reluctantly continue after Moiraine and Lan.

Lan: [whispers] What if it's him?
Moiraine: Mat? There's an inherent darkness within him. He was drawn to the dagger, and it was feeding on him as much as he was on it.
Lan: What if it's him?
Moiraine: Then I can't let him within a hundred leagues of the Dark One. I already know what choice he'd make. And the one thing that we cannot afford is for the Dragon to turn to the Shadow.

They continue on through the darkness.

Loial: To think... that fruit trees once thrived on every island, that these pockmarked stone paths were once soft and verdant, covered in grass, but now, one wrong step and you plummet into a void which knows no end. Or worse--
Egwene: There's something worse than falling into a bottomless pit?
Loial: Oh, yes, certainly. I can think of at least--
Rand: It's all right, Loial. We understand.
Loial: Mm-hmm.

As they walk, Lan and Nynaeve come to be walking side by side.

Lan: I owe Moiraine three silvers. You were scowling. I bet on pouting.

Nynaeve gives a small smile.

Lan: Mat is safer there than he is here. I can promise you that.
Perrin: Wait. There's something up there.
Loial: It's one of the Guiding Stones. But...

Loial touches the surface of the stone. There's writing carved into it, but it's defaced with slash marks.

Lan: What?
Loial: How very strange. No Ogier would deface a Guiding. It's as if someone's tried to destroy it, keep people from finding their way.
Moiraine: But can you still read it?
Loial: Oh... I'll ask for your patience.
Rand: [whispers] If he's asking for patience, then we're gonna die.
Moiraine: We'll rest here while Loial works out the correct path. It's a day's journey, at least, to reach our Waygate, so... take some comfort while you can.
Rand: How did you see that?
Perrin: I don't know.

Lan approaches Moiraine and whispers.

Lan: Do you know what did that to the Guiding?

She doesn't respond.

Lan: There's something following us.

She nods. They both look back, but all they see is darkness.

The group settles back as Loial works. Egwene sits besides Rand, who opens his arm to her.

Rand: [whispers] Come.

Egwene cuddles to Rand's side. Perrin looks away. Nynaeve looks between them.

Scene 6[]

Lan stands watch. There's a whistling in the distance, and Egwene wakes and sits up. She looks around.

Egwene: Rand. Rand. Did you...

Rand sits up.

Rand: What is it?

They stand. A trolloc snarls and jumps down.

Rand: [gasps] No!

Egwene puts her hands up in defense as Rand puts a protective arm around Egwene. The One Power swirls around them and the trolloc is blasted off the side of the pathway, falling into the dark.

Lan: Get back!
Loial: A Trolloc in the Ways. That should be impossible.
Lan: Explains how they reached the Two Rivers undetected.
Moiraine: And what happened to the Guiding.
Perrin: Did it just get a lot colder in here?
Loial: Oh, dear.
Egwene: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to channel!
Nynaeve: What is Machin Shin?
Loial: It translates from the Old Tongue to mean the Black Wind.
Nynaeve: And what exactly is the Black Wind?
Moiraine: Machin Shin will speak to you. Do not listen.
Lan: We'll never make it to our Waygate. How far are we from the Gate to Fal Dara?
Loial: It's closer, but I don't...
Moiraine: Take us there. Go! Quickly!

They all run. Something swirls in the darkness in the distance, briefly illumanted by lightning.

Moiraine: This way! Come on! Quickly!
Lan: Go! Come on!

They pause over a single-stone narrow pathway.

Loial: The Waygate is up ahead.

There's screeching in the distance from Machin Shin. The group carefully makes it over the bridge. They get to the Waygate, but Machin Shin rushes them. It whispers to each of them as they scream.

Machin Shin: [to Moiraine] You're wrong about everything. You'll murder these children and call it heroism.
Machin Shin: [to Egwene] You're nothing, an imposter, a fraud.
Machin Shin: [to Rand] Egwene will never love you as much as you love her. She left you once, and she'll leave you again.
Machin Shin: [to Perrin] You wanted Laila dead, out of the way. That's why you killed her. Because you loved another woman more than your wife.
Machin Shin: [to Lan] You can't protect her. You'll watch her die.
Machin Shin: [to Nynaeve] You'll hear their screams as they die, just like you heard your parents, and you'll do nothing to save them. You lost Mat, and now you'll lose the others one by one, till you have nothing and no one.

As Machin Shin speaks to her, Nynaeve painfully lowers her hands from her head and steps away from the group.

Lan: No!
Machin Shin: [to Nynaeve] You can't protect them. You can't.

Nynaeve screams and unleashes a massive burst of power. Light shines around them all, pushing back Machin Shin. Nynaeve struggles with the power.

Egwene: Please! Hurry!

Moiraine focuses on opening the Waygate.

Moiraine: Quickly, now! It's open.
Egwene: Nynaeve!

Lan pulls Nynaeve toward the Waygate. They all run through into a desert, Moiraine stepping out last. The gate closes behind them.

Moiraine: Well done. All of you.
Nynaeve: Where are we?
Loial: The fortress city of Fal Dara. Last bastion against the Blight.

In the distance they can see a large walled city.

Moiraine: The Eye of the World is a day's walk beyond the city. But rest is close at hand. We have friends in these Borderlands.

Rand stands with tears in his eyes. Egwene touches his shoulder and Rand gasps, startled. Moiraine looks around the dejected group.

Moiraine: Whatever it was you heard in the wind... put it out of your minds.

Moiraine turns and walks toward Fal Dara.

Scene 7: Fal Dara[]

Timestamp: 00:17:55

The group approachs the gate of Fal Dara.

Loial: [to Lan] How long has it been since you last walked through this gate?

Lan doesn't answers.

In the palace, a group of soldiers greet them. They bow with a hand over their heart.

Lord Yakota: Dai Shan.

Lan returns the salute.

Yakota: On behalf of Lord Agelmar, I welcome you back to Fal Dara.
Uno Nomesta: Welcome home... [chuckles] you bloody great bastard.

Uno and Lan hug.

The soliders lead the group into the throne room. Lady Amalisa turns to see them. Lord Agelmar enters from the balcony.

Agelmar: Your presence warms me, Dai Shan. And you, Moiraine Sedai. To what do we owe this pleasure?
Moiraine: I am here with a warning.
Agelmar: Let me guess. This anxious sister of mine wrote to the White Tower with overblown stories of the encroaching Blight and Trolloc raids. While I appreciate your concern, Fal Dara always has and always will be able to protect its own.
Moiraine: My Lord, I can assure you that neither I nor any Aes Sedai doubts your ability to keep the Blight at bay.
Agelmar: I should hope not. We have guarded Tarwin's Gap for a thousand years, and fought off armies of Trollocs that would make even an Aes Sedai blanch. I appreciate you making the trek to the Borderlands, but I fear you may have done so in vain.
Moiraine: Lord Agelmar, if you'll allow me to finish. I have no intention of advising you. A Lord should protect his land as he sees fit. I am simply here with a warning. The Dark One has begun to use the Ways to move his armies. Now, while it behooves you to guard the Gap, as your family has always done, it might be prudent to have a group of men wall up the Fal Daran Waygate as well.
Agelmar: Do as she says.

Lord Yakota bows in acknowledgement.

Agelmar: I offended you. You and your companions are welcome here as long as you wish. The Borderlands have a long history of mutual support with the White Tower, and that will not change while the Black Hawk still flies.
Moiraine: Thank you, my Lord.

Waygate[]

At the Waygate, a man walks down the steps and heads toward Fal Dara.

Palace halls[]

Lady Amalisa escorts Moiraine through the palace. She channels to light the wall sconces.

Amalisa: Your chambers are this way. A room fit for an Aes Sedai.
Moiraine: While I'm here, I thought I might pay Min a visit. I presume she still resides in the city?
Amalisa: The Seer? Why do you wish to speak with her?
Moiraine: Why not?
Amalisa: My philosophy, as well. My brother begs to differ.
Moiraine: Of course he does. Why would he ask her a question when he already knows all the answers?
Amalisa: We had no forewarning a sister was coming from the towns south of here. If I were to ask why you were in the Ways, would you give me the courtesy of an answer?
Moiraine: You spent many years training with my sisters at the White Tower...

Moiraine takes Amalisa's hand and touches her Great Serpent ring. Unlike Moiraine's it does not have a gem in the middle of it.

Moiraine: ... and while your power may not have been strong enough to become one of us, I hope I might still trust your discretion.
Amalisa: Discreet as I may be, my allegiance lies with this city, not your Amyrlin Seat.

A door opens down the hall, and both women go quiet as someone walks off. Moiraine steps forward and speaks more quietly.

Moiraine: I need a message delivered to the Tower. There is a man that they must find. A boy, really. Mat Cauthon.
Amalisa: And to whom should I send this message?
Moiraine: The Red Ajah.

Streets of Fal Dara[]

Moiraine walks with purpose through the busy streets of Fal Dara. She looks back at Rand, Egwene, Perrin, and Nynaeve following her. Egwene looks at Rand.

Egwene: What is it? Mat?

Rand doesn't answer.

Egwene: It's the wind. Forget about the whispers. None of it's true. None of it.

As they walk, Perrin turns as he sees something walk past.

Nynaeve: What's gotten into you?
Perrin: I could've sworn I just saw Padan Fain walk past us.
Nynaeve: The peddler? Perrin... Padan Fain is dead. He was there on Bel Tine when the Trollocs came.
Perrin: Seems like a different life, doesn't it? Bel Tine.

Bar[]

As Moiraine enters a bar, some of the customers quiet and look at her. Across the room, she and a young woman, Min, make eye contact.

Nynaeve, Egwene, Perrin, and Rand all sit at a table. Min brings them all drinks.

Egwene: Thank you.
Rand: They don't eat chicken or... beef?
Perrin: The Way of the Leaf is simple. Do no violence. If the whole world followed it, we'd be much better off.
Rand: No fish?

Perrin, Rand, and Egwene chuckle.

Egwene: I'll tell you what, dinners with the Travelers were better than anything you've ever made me.

All except Nynaeve laugh.

Nynaeve: Shh. All of you. What is she up to?

At the bar counter, Moiraine speaks with Min.

Moiraine: Any detail would be helpful, no matter how seemingly small.

Min pours herself a drink.

Min: It's quite invasive, this. Do they know what I am?
Moiraine: No, no one does, thanks to the Aes Sedai. I mean, if we revealed what you were, you'd be hounded every minute of the day. Or worse.

Min looks away and scoffs softly. She then looks at the four at the table.

Min: The big brooding one has...
Moiraine: They're both big, and they both brood.

Min focuses on Perrin, and see a vision of him.

Min: The one on the left... has yellow eyes, blood running down his chin.

She focuses on a vision of Rand.

Min: And the redhead is rocking a baby.
Moiraine: Whose baby?
Min: No idea. Looks like any other baby.

Min takes a drink.

Moiraine: And the girls?
Min: White flame... and a ring of gold. I don't know. But they're all linked, all four of them.
Moiraine: Is that unusual?
Min: Very. I see sparks of light trying to fill the shadows, and the shadows trying to swallow the sparks. For what it's worth, they're all very clear visions. Usually, the more important someone is to the Pattern, the clearer the vision.
Moiraine: Is any vision stronger than the others?
Min: Hmm, not particularly.

Min takes another drink. She then looks at Moiraine.

Moiraine: You saw something for me?

Min pours herself another drink.

Min: Don't look at me like that. I see the Amyrlin Seat, and she's wearing full regalia, and... She's going to be your downfall.

Fal Dara palace[]

Scene 10[]

Perrin, Egwene, and Rand sit at a table in the palace. There's hushed laughter. Nynaeve stands nearby.

Egwene: [whispers] What's taking them so long?
Rand: Shh. Here she comes.

Moiraine and Lan enter the room.

Moiraine: We leave tomorrow at sunrise.
Rand: Who was she? That bartender.
Moiraine: A woman I've known since she was young.
Nynaeve: Stop lying to us.
Moiraine: You forget, girl, that I cannot lie, no matter how much I wish I could. She sees glimpses of the Pattern, the future, and I hoped she'd tell me which of you is the Dragon, so I could save the rest. I don't want you to die, any of you, but whichever of you goes to the Eye of the World and is not the Dragon... you will die there. Ground to dust between two forces of nature.
Egwene: Well... which one of us is it?
Moiraine: She didn't know.

Perrin scoffs. The group all looks upset.

Moiraine: And so tomorrow I will take all of you to the Eye, knowing that three of you will not return.
Perrin: How can you be so sure? Look, isn't there a chance that Mat's the Dragon? That we survive? That you're wrong?
Moiraine: It's easy to use doubt as a crutch, but doubt is the first step toward surrender to the Dark. Look, I didn't choose this path for myself any more than you did, but I will follow it because I must. Because I know what is right.
Nynaeve: You've made your choice. But we'll make our own. Powerful as you are, I don't think you can drag the four of us there against our will.
Moiraine: Running, hiding... won't save you from the weaving of the Pattern. Make your decisions tonight, then. We leave at dawn.

Moiraine and Lan leave.

Scene 11[]

Timestamp: 00:29:33
Rand: Nothing an Aes Sedai says is optional. She'll force us if she wants to.
Nynaeve: Let her try.
Egwene: We left the Two Rivers to protect the people we love. Our families. And that's what we're still doing. No matter the cost.
Nynaeve: Says Moiraine. You take everything she says as fact. This... this entire prophecy, the Dragon Reborn being one of us, we only believe it because she told us it's true.
Egwene: She can't lie.
Rand: That doesn't mean she can't mislead. You think she just learned today that the rest of us will die there?
Nynaeve: And even if she thinks she's telling the truth, she could be wrong. About us, about all of it.
Egwene: I'm not doing this because Moiraine said we should. Or because I'm... I'm convinced she even knows exactly what she's talking about. I want to go to the Eye of the World, because if there's even a chance she's right... then it's worth it. You're a Wisdom. If Moiraine wasn't a part of this... you wouldn't think twice. You'd do it. Don't let your pride stop you from doing what you know is right.
Rand: We've lost too many people already. I can't lose anyone else in this room.
Perrin: What if we're throwing our lives away for nothing? What if none of us are the Dragon? What if it is Mat?
Egwene: Come on.
Rand: What? Why couldn't it be him?

Egwene looks at him.

Rand: Oh, you've never thought much of him, have you?
Egwene: Rand...
Rand: You never gave him a chance. You never really got to know him. If you had, then you'd know how hard he's had it, how he fights to get by. He doesn't have much, and what he does have, he gives to his friends, to his sisters, - to us...
Nynaeve: All right, stop!
Egwene: He left us, Rand. You saw his face just the same as I did. He probably went back to Tar Valon for that bloody stolen dagger.
Rand: No, you don't know anything about that.
Egwene: He left us!
Rand: Well, I guess you're the expert on that, aren't you?
Perrin: [scoffs]
Egwene: What is that supposed to mean?
Rand: You're the only one who's ever really left me.
Perrin: Don't speak to her like that!
Nynaeve: Stop it!
Rand: Excuse me?
Perrin: You owe her an apology.
Rand: For what? The truth?
Nynaeve: Stop. Just stop. I am so tired of you two fighting over her like she's something you can win. [breath trembling]
Rand: I'm sorry, wh... what did you just say?

No one speaks. Rand laughs wryly.

Perrin: What's so funny?
Rand: [chuckles] This. It's been right in front of me this whole time. I never even noticed. The day you proposed to Laila, that was the day Egwene and I got together.
Perrin: The only woman I've ever loved was my wife.

Rand walks out. Egwene's breath shudders.

Nynaeve: I didn't mean...
Egwene: Just...

Egwene also walks out.

Scene 12: Moiraine's room[]

Timestamp: 00:34:09

Moiraine stands on a balcony, looking at Tarwin's Gap. Lan joins her.

Lan: They'll come.
Moiraine: Willingly?
Lan: You've given them a semblance of a choice. That's all they need.

She doesn't respond. Lan steps up beside her.

Lan: [sighs] What is it?
Moiraine: Nothing. Nostalgia, I suppose. The air in these Borderlands, there's something about it. The smell, it reminds me of the night we met.
Lan: It's unlike you to dwell on the past.
Moiraine: I feel I've taken everything from you. And more.
Lan: You have taken nothing from me.
Moiraine: There's more to life than me, this mission.
Lan: Before you, I had nothing to live for... and nothing to die for. You... have given me both.
Moiraine: Aren't there goodbyes you need to make in this city before we go?

Lan nods. He begins to leave.

Moiraine: I like her, you know. The Wisdom.

Lan nods and goes.

Scene 13: Streets of Fal Dara[]

Timestamp:

Lan walks through the streets of Fal Dara. He looks back. Nynaeve is hidden behind a wall. Lan smiles and looks through a window and knocks. Nynaeve peeks out at him. Lan enters the home, where this is an older man (Zahir), a woman, another man, and a child.

Zahir: Come here.

Lan and Zahir embrace.

Zahir: Oh-ho! Let me see your face.
Lan: Same?
Zahir: Ah, same.

Outside, Nyaneve walks by and sees Lan embracing the family. She smiles. Lan sits at the table and greets the man.

Lan: How are you? You good?

Zahir begins to serve dinner. Everyone is laughing and smiling.

Lan: Yes, please.
Zahir: You ready?

Lan holds up his bowl.

Lan: Thank you so much.

Lan looks down at his bowl, pauses, and looks toward the window thoughtfully.

Outside, Nynaeve turns away and begins to head back. She gasps and stops -- in front of her is Lan.

Lan: Hello.
Nynaeve: Hello. I was just...
Lan: Following me? I don't think you could rightly call this tracking.

Nynaeve doesn't respnd.

Lan: Hmm.

Lan smiles and walks past her back toward the home.

Lan: Are you just going to stand there? Or do you plan to... come in?

Nynaeve smiles. Lan opens the door and enters with Nynaeve.

Lan: Everyone? This is Nynaeve. Nynaeve, this is everyone.

Zahir looks back at the family look excited.

Nynaeve: I'm sorry, I don't mean to intrude.
Zahir: Please, sit, sit.
Woman: Are you hungry, Nynaeve Sedai?
Nynaeve: Oh, I'm no Aes Sedai. But something to eat would be lovely, thank you.
Woman: Have a seat.
Zahir: [quietly] She is beautiful.
Lan: [quietly] I hadn't noticed.
Woman: Here, child, let Nynaeve sit down. Please sit.

The man fills a bowl and hands it to Nynaeve.

Child: Lan, sit with me.
Nynaeve: Thank you. This smells delicious.
Child: [to Lan] Did you ever fight the Trollocs?

Zahir touches Nynaeve's wrist.

Zahir: Thank you for keeping my Dai Shin safe... and bringing him home to me.
Child: How big was the Trolloc?
Lan: The Trolloc was massive.
Child: Bigger than you?
Lan: Much bigger. With big teeth and fangs.

Lan and the child laugh. Lan looks over at Nynaeve, who's smiling as she watches.

Scene 14: Fal Dara palace[]

Timestamp: 00:39:21

Lan and Nynaeve walk back to their rooms through the palace.

Nynaeve: She is very sweet.
Lan: She's enthusiastic.
Nynaeve: And she likes you a lot.
Lan: It's because I always bring gifts. Always.

Nynaeve laughs softly. They arrive at a door.

Lan: Well...
Nynaeve: Thank you for including me tonight.
Lan: You didn't give me much of a choice.

Nynaeve laughs softly. They pause. Look at each other.

Lan: Good night.

Lan turns and enters his room and closes the door. Nynaeve stands in the hallway and turns away.

In his bedroom, Lan undresses. His door opens and Nynaeve steps in.

Nynaeve: Do you want me to go?

Lan steps toward her and they kiss.

Scene 15: Training yard[]

Timestamp: 00:42:19

In the training yard, Rand shoots arrows at a target. None of his arrows are hitting the bullseye. He exhales in frustration.

Egwene: I waited in my room for an hour for you to come and apologize.
Rand: I've found through hard-won experience that when you're actually ready to talk, you find me.

She doesn't respond. Rand sighs.

Rand: I-I'm sorry. I know there's nothing between you and Perrin.
Egwene: Of course there isn't. That's not why I'm angry with you. How dare you think, for even a second, that I don't care about Mat. That I wouldn't fight for him, die for him.
Rand: I was... scared. I still am. I don't want to lose you.
Egwene: [crying] And you won't. Moiraine's wrong about one thing. We're coming back. All of us.
Rand: Listen to me. Whatever happens... at the Eye, this power that lives inside of you, you can't ignore it, 'cause it won't let you. You need to go to the White Tower, become what you've always wanted to be.
Egwene: No, not without you. I've already made that mistake once.
Rand: I'll come with you to the White Tower. Every Aes Sedai needs a Warder. Would you really think I'd let someone else be yours?

They kiss.

Egwene: If it's you... I will always stand by you, you know that. No matter what happens. No matter what comes.

They kiss again.

Scene 16: Lan's bedroom[]

Lan: You're leaving?
Nynaeve: Why did he call you Dai Shin?
Lan: [takes deep breath] I hate it when he calls me that. It's the title... given to future kings of Malkier. Not that it matters. Malkier was taken by the Blight so long ago.
Nynaeve: Who is he? He treats you like a son.
Lan: He was one of my father's armsmen. And on the night that Malkier was overrun by the Blight, my family was slaughtered. They... smuggled me out of the palace.
Nynaeve: And brought you here?
Nynaeve: You know... I never quite understood why you bonded yourself to Moiraine.
Lan: And now you do?
Nynaeve: You are a king without a kingdom. A boy without a family. And now you finally belong. To her.
Lan: She doesn't own me.
Nynaeve: Doesn't she?
Lan: Only in the way those kids own you. Hmm? "A Wisdom never weds." Hey. Stay.

Scene 17: Rand and Egwene's room[]

Timestamp: 00:48:50

Rand lies awake in bed next to Egwene, who's asleep.

Tam: (flashback) Over here!

Rand sits up in bed as he recalls the night of the Trolloc attack, his father fighting the Trolloc, and then carrying his wounded father through the woods.

Rand: (flashback) I'll get you there. I'll get you to Nynaeve.
Tam: (flashback) [groans] Kari. Kari. It was so hot. I didn't mean to find her there, but I had to get away, up the mountain into the snow. He was crying.

Rand heads back to the training yard.

Rand: (flashback) Dad...
Tam: (flashback) He was so tiny.
Rand: (flashback) What are you talking about?

In the training yard, Rand aims his arrow. He fires and hits the center of the target.

Dana: (flashback) That door is made of ironwood. Three men your size couldn't break it down.

In his memory, as Rand knocks down the door, the One Power flows around him.

Rand: (flashback) That mountain, I think I've seen it before.

In his memory, Rand wraps his arm protectively around Egwene as a Trolloc jumps toward them. The One Power swirls around his arm and outward, blasting the Trolloc back. Then Machin Shin whispers to him.

Machin Shin: (flashback) It's you. You've always known it's you, deep down. No matter how fast or how far you run, you cannot escape your fate. You are the Dragon Reborn. You are the Dragon Reborn.
Rand: (flashback) No!

Scene 18: Bar[]

Timestamp: 00:50:30

Min is cleaning up. The bar is empty. The door opens.

Min: We're closed. Oh, it's you.
Rand: Did you know I was coming?
Min: Yeah, it sort of comes with the territory. What do you want?
Rand: I want you to tell me that I'm not the Dragon Reborn.
Min: Okay, you're not the Dragon Reborn.
Rand: You don't have to protect my feelings.
Min: I definitely don't care how you feel. You're just another guy in another bar that wants something from me.
Rand: I-I think we got off on the wrong foot. I'm sorry, I didn't even introduce myself.
Min: I know who you are. Look me in the eye and tell me that you want to know what I've got to say. Because once you do, there's no turning back.

Rand doesn't answer.

They sit at a table. Min pours a glass.

Min: It was the first vision I ever had. I was a kid... walking down a damp alleyway in Tar Valon. And when I turned a corner, I saw a man in armor carrying your heron-marked blade.

Flashback: On the slopes of Dragonmount, the soldier pulls his sword from Tigraine's throat. He stabs it into the ground and removes his helmet, revealing that he's Tam al'Thor. He extends a hand to Tigraine. Relieved, she takes his hand. He holds her hand as she gives birth.

Min: And when I looked at him... I saw snow and blood.

Flashback: Tigaine collapses back, and Tam lifts the newborn child. The baby cries.

Min: I saw a baby born on the slopes of Dragonmount.

Flashback: Tam cuts the umbilical cord with his sword. Tigraine fades, and her head falls to the side, dead. Tam's smile falls. He stands, holding the baby wrapped in a soldier's cloak.

Min: The man raised him in a wooden house beside fields of sheep, in a sleepy village surrounded by two rivers.

Flashback: Tam steps away, holding the baby. In the far distance is the city of Tar Valon.

Min: And that baby... that baby was something impossible.

The camera focuses on Rand in the present. Min laughs softly, without humor. Rand takes a breath.

Rand: What do you see now... when you look at me?
Min: Rainbows and carnivals and three beautiful women.

Rand returns a small smile and exhales.

Rand: Do you see... the Eye of the World?
Min: Wish I didn't.
Rand: Why?
Min: Well, you seem like a decent person.
Rand: Do I make it back?

Min's smile falls. She takes the bottle and leaves the table.

Rand: I didn't think so.

Rand stands.

Scene 19: Nynaeve's bedroom[]

Timestamp: 00:53:40

Morning in Fal Dara. Bells toll. Egwene walks down the hallway and knocks on Nynaeve's bedroom door.

Egwene: Nynaeve?

No answer. She knocks again and finally enters. The bed is neatly made. Egwene laughs softly and sits on the edge of the bed. Nynaeve enters a moment later.

Egwene: And where have you been?
Nynaeve: Nowhere.
Egwene: I mean, you've been somewhere. And by the looks of this perfectly made bed, it wasn't in your room.
Nynaeve: I couldn't sleep.
Egwene: Hmm.

Egwene smiles knowingly. Nynaeve smiles, but then becomes serious.

Nynaeve: I owe you an apology. I spoke out of turn. I didn't mean to stir anything up.

Perrin enters and closes the door behind him.

Nynaeve: So, what did you decide?

Egwene stands.

Egwene: I want to go.

Perrin nods in agreement.

Egwene: Where's Rand?
Perrin: I assumed he was with you.

Rand walks down the hall of the palace and knocks on a bedroom door.

In Nynaeve's room, Nynaeve answers the door. But it's Lan.

Nynaeve: What happened?

Moiraine opens her door to Rand's knock. The sky is dark behind her - this happened the night before.

Rand: It's me.

Moiraine gives a small nod.

In Nynaeve's room.

Lan: Moiraine masked our bond.
Nynaeve: I don't understand.
Lan: She left.
Nynaeve: By herself?
Egwene: Rand.

Scene 20: The Blight[]

Rand and Moiraine walk from the city of Fal Dara, past Tarwin's Gap. A sickly forest of thick vines is before them.

Rand: What is that?
Moiraine: The Blight. We have to go through it to get to the Eye of the World.

Moiraine enters the Blight, and Rand follows. As they enter, Rand looks down to see the skeleton of a person with vines twisted around it, covered in moss. The Blight stretches for miles before them.

End credits.
