Tear is a kingdom in the Westlands, situated on the southern coast.[1]

Overview[]

Channeling is illegal in Tear. Aes Sedai are tolerated and even respected when they come to Tear, but are forbidden from using the One Power when in the borders of the nation. When a girl discovers she can channel, she is made to leave the country for the White Tower, and is encouraged to never return.[2]

History[]

As a young girl, Siuan Sanche began to manifest the One Power. Her father let her stay in Tear, even though channeling was illegal, and encouraged her to improve her abilities every day. However, when their house was burned down and the Dragon's Fang was scrawled on the remaining wreckage, he sent Siuan to the White Tower on their fishing boat. She eventually rose to become the Amyrlin Seat.[3]

Activities[]

Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche possess a Gateway ter'angreal that allows them to Travel from their quarters in the White Tower to a fishing hut in the Fingers of the Dragon. The two lovers kiss, and spend the night together for the first time in years. Afterwards, they speak of the five potential Dragons Reborn from the Two Rivers, and Siuan's dreams of the Eye of the World, with the Amyrlin agreeing that Moiraine must take the five youths there. They return to the White Tower by the morning.[3]
