According to showrunner Rafe Judkins, season 3 will primarily adapt book 4, The Shadow Rising.[3]

On November 11, 2021, news site Midgard Times announced that season 3 had been greenlit and would begin filming immediately after season 2.[46] On December 11, 2021, the official Amazon Help account on Twitter stated there were 3 seasons.[47]
During a Q&A on November 24, 2021, showrunner Rafe Judkins indicated that they were planning for season 3 in regards to being mindful about the time between season releases,[48] but also indicated that season 3 was not yet confirmed.[49]
On July 21, 2022, season 3 was officially confirmed during a panel at San Diego Comic Con.[1][2]
Pre-production[]
In February 2023, the Two Rivers set was being rebuilt in preparation for filming.[50] In March 2023, a casting call was put out for an extra with an April 18th filming date, indicating that filming would start soon.[51]
Principal photography[]
Principal photography began on April 17, 2023 in Czechia (the Czech Republic) and was anticipated to continue there through October 25, 2023.[52][53] Actress Priyanka Bose shared that her filming wrapped in Czechia on October 29, 2023.[54] Filming might continue in Czechia through late November 2023.[55] Filming also took place in Slovenia and South Africa.[55][56]
On March 22, 2024, production announced that season 3 had wrapped filming.[57]
Filming locations for season 3 include:

- Jordan Studios in Prague - the primary studio location for the series
- A quarry located 40 kilometers outside of Prague - primary filming location for the Two Rivers
- Vranov nad Dyjí Castle, located in the South Moravian Region - filming took place in the Hall of the Ancestors, possibly for Caemlyn[26]
- Slovenia
- South Africa
- Possibly around Cape Town and the North Cape region

- While filming season 3, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike. This included all the writers for The Wheel of Time. As part of the strike, showrunner Rafe Judkins stopped promotion for the series, which was one of the guild's strike rules, and instead highlighted writer Amanda Kate Shuman and the work that writers put into their shows.[58]
- At New York Comic Con 2023, Rafe Judkins teased the Aiel Waste and the city of Rhuidean as new locations for season 3. He explained that the Aiel culture will be explored in much more depth, as well as learning more about the World of Dreams from Aiel Dreamwalkers. He also teased the casting of a Forsaken that has not yet been seen in previous seasons, and that Liandrin Guirale would return at the beginning of the season.[59]
- Rafe Judkins confirmed more about season 3 in a Q&A at a special screening of the season 2 finale at the Whitby Hotel in New York. He stated that season 3 would see a return to the Two Rivers, and that Tanchico will appear for the first time. The season will also provide the first look at the Sea Folk culture. Rand al'Thor and Perrin Aybara will get a large amount of focus this season.[60]
