The unnamed King of Ghealdan is a character in The Wheel of Time television series portrayed by Miguel Álvarez.

When Ghealdan is attacked by Logain Ablar, the king tries to hold him off with his army.

History[]

Early life[]

The king was born to the royal family of Ghealdan. He eventually became the sovereign ruler of his nation.[1][2]

When the minor Ghealdanin nobleman, Logain Ablar, proclaimed himself the Dragon Reborn, the royal council of Ghealdan stripped him of his lands and titles.[3]

Season 1[]

When Logain Ablar and his armies take the king's castle, the False Dragon confronts the monarch. The King is injured from the fighting, and is separated from his forces. The king tells Logain that he will never wear the crown, but Logain clarifies that he does not intend to take the throne as the Dragon Reborn. When he sees Logain talking to one of the voices in his head, the King realizes Logain is already mad from the corruption on saidin. He tries to attack Logain with his back dagger, but Logain holds him back with weaves of the power, disarming the king, before Healing him with the One Power. Logain picks up the dagger and offers it back to the king, telling him that there is a place for anyone at his side, even his enemies.[1]

The king becomes one of Logain's followers, believing him to be the Dragon Reborn. When Logain is captured by the Aes Sedai, the king is with the army that attacks the Aes Sedai camp. The king is killed when Alanna Mosvani uses a great attack of the One Power against Logain's supporters.[1]

After the battle, the King of Ghealdan is given funeral rites by the surviving Aes Sedai and Warders. Lan lays the King into a shallow grave, places his helmet on his chest, and appears to say a prayer.[4]

Relationships[]

Logain Ablar[]

The king initially fears and opposes Logain due to the the madness inherent to male channelers, and fearing that Logain is trying to take the throne from him. However, due to Logain sparing his life and Healing him even after he tries to kill the man, he is won over by the man's great charisma, and starts openly supporting the Dragon Reborn.

Physical appearance[]

The king has brown hair, blue eyes, and fair skin. He wears silver armor over red clothing.

Changes from the book series[]

King Johanin Booklink (book spoilers!) rules Ghealdan at the beginning of the book series, but never ends up supporting Logain. It remains unclear whether the King of Ghealdan is supposed to represent Johanin, or if he is truly an original character.
